Pight Sticky Blocks and Portals
Adhesion clusters and teleport routing—mechanics that replace old rail puzzles.
Mid-campaign Pight stops being “one piston, one block” and starts behaving like a tiny logistics sim. Two mechanics drive most of that shift: sticky blocks that adhere into clusters, and portals that teleport blocks across the board. Older preview builds featured rails; the Steam release replaces rail movement with portals for cleaner routing and fewer edge-case jams. This guide explains how each system works, how they interact with pistons, and how to plan solutions when the light must cross the map in two jumps.

Sticky blocks: adhesion rules
Sticky blocks bond to orthogonally adjacent movable cubes when a piston (or another effect) slides them together. Once connected, the group moves as one rigid shape until something separates them.
Core behaviors:
- Adhesion forms on contact during movement, not when you merely place blocks side by side before running—most levels require a piston shove to snap them.
- Clusters keep shape while pushed or pulled. A three-block “L” moves as an L, which may not fit through a 1-wide corridor.
- Pull pistons can drag entire clusters if the head attaches to any member of the group, depending on level rules—test in sim when unsure.
- Walls break attempts, not clusters. If any member would enter a wall, the whole move fails.
Sticky adhesion shines when you must translate the light block without touching it directly—glue a pawn block to it, move the pawn, and let adhesion carry the bulb. It also creates failure modes: accidentally sticky-gluing a wall anchor block to your light can lock the puzzle until you undo.
Levels roughly 21–30 emphasize sticky tutorials: make an L-shape, fit through a gate, separate by pulling one leg away. Walkthrough: Levels 11–20 ends just before sticky ramps up; expect the difficulty jump early in the twenties.
Portals: paired teleportation
Portals come in entrance / exit pairs, usually color-coded. When a movable block (and anything sticky-attached to it) enters an entrance tile, it instantly appears on the exit, preserving facing and cluster shape unless the exit is blocked.
Portal rules of thumb:
- Blocked exit = teleport fails or the block stays put—run the sim; Pight is consistent per level but does not spell it out in text.
- Clusters teleport whole if any member hits the entrance, dragging partners with it.
- Chains are possible: exit near a second entrance can route across the map in one tick sequence.
- Pistons before portals: often you must align the cluster’s center of mass so the correct cube hits the pad.
Portals replaced rails from early demos. Rails slid blocks along fixed tracks; portals grant discontinuous jumps. If you watched old footage with rail tiles, ignore that layout—Steam builds use portal pairs instead. The design goal is the same: move the light around immovable geometry without pixel-perfect sliding.
Combining sticky blocks and portals
The hardest mid-game puzzles ask you to grow a cluster, portal it, then shave pieces off with a pull piston so the light can reach power.
Example workflow:
- Stick a helper block to the light.
- Push the cluster onto a portal entrance.
- On the far side, pull one block away to narrow the shape.
- Final push onto the power tile.
When this fails, check exit orientation. A cluster that arrives rotated wrong may not fit the last corridor even though teleport succeeded. Undo to the pre-portal step and approach the entrance from another face.
Dynamite enters the mix shortly after portals on some levels. Blasting a destructible wall between portal exits can open a shortcut, but blasting a block in your cluster destroys adhesion anchors. Read Dynamite and Undo before experimenting with explosives near sticky glue.
Visual reading without in-game text
Pight never labels “sticky” or “portal.” Learn the art:
- Sticky blocks often show a soft glow or connector texture on faces that can bond.
- Portals use matching frame colors for pairs; dashed lines or particle hints sometimes link them on activation.
- Entrance tiles may pulse when a valid cluster overlaps.
Pause during sim on your first portal level and screenshot the frame order—useful when you return after a break.
Strategy checklist
- Sketch portal pairs on paper before placing pistons.
- Minimize cluster size before teleport—smaller shapes fit more exits.
- Keep one undo checkpoint before the portal hop; most mistakes happen one step after teleport.
